Communiqué de presse
David Klein Gallery is pleased to present Remember Me: faces, places & home, featuring work by Nicolas Coleman, Jonathan Harris, Iris Eichenberg, Marianna Olague, Lauren Semivan, Martha Mysko and Robert Schefman.  The opening reception will take place Friday, October 4th, from 5 -7:30 PM at David Klein Gallery, 163 Townsend Street, Birmingham, MI.

Remember Me: faces, places, & home began as an exhibition of portraits, historically a favorite subject of artists, who customarily find their subjects close to home.  Lovers, friends, children, neighbors, are often called upon to model by the artist.  From Baroque masters like Vermeer and Rembrandt to contemporary artists such as Lucien Freud and Alice Neel, the portrait presents not only the image and character of the sitter but also captures a moment in time. The composition of a portrait often includes a relevant landscape providing the viewer with a sense of place relating to the subject.

We all experience that sense of place when we return to where we grew up or when revisiting a favorite city.  There’s a comfort in being able to find our way because we’ve been there before.  Memories of traveling are always linked with the people we traveled with or met along the way. And, at the end of travels, we are happy to return home, to settle back into our familiar surroundings.  The artists in this exhibition share faces of loved ones, places of beauty discovered while traveling, images that evoke home and forms that are domestic in nature.
